Gooooooooal!!!

Nicolas's attitude today was a complete 180 from where it was at practice just two days ago. Maybe it really was due to his illness, I don't know but whatever it was, now that he's had two doses of his medicine for the strep and put on his uniform he's Mr. Posey, posey, smiley, smiley.

This morning when I went in to wake him up, he asked me if it was time for soccer and when I told him 'yes', he LEAPT from his bed whooping and hollering with joy. I could only laugh. He was so happy.

It continued during and through the game. You couldn't wipe the smile from his face. He even got to start in the game and couldn't wait to attack the ball. At each kickoff, the coaches had to keep telling him to wait until the other team touched it first before he went to kick it! But once they did, he attacked - smiling and laughing the whole time. He was up and down the field with everyone else and at NO TIME did he look bored or more interested in 'picking daisies'. It was awesome!

His team actually WON the game (as much as this age can 'win'). The score was "I stopped counting" to 1. Our Yellin' Yetis just KEPT scoring, and scoring, and scoring... it was getting embarrassing...just a little.

Not that scores matter, because it should be all about fun; at least at this age - but the game didn't even hit a full minute before one of our players had scored. In all, I think about four of the kids got to score...

AND NICO SCORED ONE!!!

...but I missed it!! My 13 year old's game was just ending at a field on the opposite end of the soccer complex and I had to go back and wait until his game finished (it ran into Nico's game time) but Jason got to see it. And Nicolas told me all about it once I returned. He was so proud of himself.

"Are you proud of me, Mommy? I scored a ball in the goal!" You couldn't wipe the smile from my face. His enthusiasm was intoxicating. :)

Oh, and I forgot one thing - remember when I said there were 4 and 4? Well, it's actually 3 and 4. One of the boys I initially said was 'white' I'd forgotten is actually 1/2 asian and 1/2 white. SO - the 'ethnic' crew is majority on this team - 3 white/5 'other'. This is the first ever for us so I'm pretty excited. Not that it matters, but it's exciting because we're usually the only OR one of two non-white kids on the team. So I'm glad my son gets to experience diversity (outside of his school which is primarily Indian) that I never did to this extent growing up.

So here are some shots from the game of Nico and his team -

Waiting to get this party started!

Yellin' Yetis's Coach Greg and the boys during their rally cry!

Back to the goal!

Ready for another kick off

Post game snack time :)

"We're #1, Mommy!"

I'm SOOOOO PROUD of him and how well he did. I was really worried he'd be disinterested like he was during practice but I've never been so wrong! Hope it continues!

Fingers crossed. :)
