So I've been busy since quitting my job last month.
As is the way with God and the Universe and all the Fates in between, I knew something else would come about. My ever increasing unhappiness at work, my off the cuff quitting when I had nothing traditional to fall back on...I'm a strong believer in the mantra that everything happens for a reason. I mean, WHO QUITS and walks out on a job with nothing else in sight? haha It was divine intervention, I tell you...DE-VINE.
I gave two weeks notice (actually three which is what they wanted) and my official last day was October19th. My actual last day ended up being the 15th. My husband's first day at his NEW job was Monday, October 18th. Crazy huh??
He received word about the new opportunity a couple of days AFTER I'd quit my job! And it wasn't like he was looking. This opportunity just presented itself to him through a networking event he attended earlier this year through a guy he'd met there. This opportunity to strategize, design and build iPhone and iPad apps is an opportunity he has been literally talking about for some time now and it's amazing how things just sort of...happen. I quit. He's hired. We both win. LOL
So since leaving, I've been helping him tie up loose ends of his business of 10+ years and have been getting acclimated to the ins and outs of his existing projects. He runs a small boutique agency from home producing websites, providing strategy and branding for small to medium-sized businesses with good marketing budgets. He does print as well, but wants to move focus only on the web. It helps that we are both in the same industry (design, advertising, marketing, web) - he is just on the creative end and I'm account management/project management end so it's not a huge transition for me, it's just getting caught up on status of all projects, client contacts, understanding what contractors he uses for certain clients and types of projects, etc. And of course, we all have our own managing styles so adjusting to that will take some time.
He will still be involved with the business but not as much as before as now it's my job to handle. We decided not to keep all of his current clients but only the ones that have been profitable and/or great to work with. However, my doing some PT or contract work may still be something we consider should business become slow.
Our main focus is to make sure if someone is working FT outside of the house, that one of us be home for the kids when they are out of school. This is something that is VERY important to him which is one of the reasons why he loved working from home all of these years. I understand it, but being the one who worked outside of the home all of these years, I didn't really see the true value behind it until we started discussing this more and more.
We have some other side ventures we're pursuing and of course I have my own personal projects (one involving the blog) that I want to get completed.
So...exciting times here in the O household. Wish us luck!
