So, about the hair...

I have been SO LAZY lately about doing my hair. I wash it, even deep condition it...but then UP UP UP in a ponytail (or bun) it goes. As you all know I'm transitioning. Been without a "tex-lax" since September and a "real" perm even longer...can't even tell you how long that's been...probably...two years?

I like the waves I've been getting with my new growth so a bun is a really nice way to showcase those cute little ripples. However, I'm getting bored. This past Sunday, I was tempted to perm. I had a friend and her kids coming in to town this past weekend for a visit and I wanted my hair to look really nice. I figure if I go through the act of actually perming (okay, I will just start saying tex-laxing because I DON'T perm it straight-straight, ever) then I would start to pay more attention to my hair, but then even the idea of spending a couple of hours perming, washing, conditioning (2x), drying, wrapping, styling, etc. just wore me out too much. LOL So out of sheer laziness, no perm for me.

It's funny, personally, I think it's less work maintaining a perm. I wash, naturally dry and straighten and I'm good to go. With this natural transition, if I did more than wash 'n go (as I have been doing) it would probably take some time to do. Especially with some of the sites I've visited it seems as though there is such a regimen to taking care of it.

I don't know. I'm still sticking to it for now but seriously getting bored with the hair. I don't like braids. I don't mind twist outs but it just seems like it will take FOR.EVER. hahah I think I would like to try a wet set on rollers for the big tumbly hair...but I'm a very low maintenance kind of girl and I really want a low maintenance kind of style. I've had that with straight styles but would like to find some for the wavier look.

So...Any products/styles/solutions you have come across to help you either transition or maintain your currently natural hair that can be accomplished in less than an hour and still look cute??

Yes, having natural hair can be a lot of work. I rocked a fro from middle school until college and then locked it because I was tired of twist outs. Nik Star has some great hair care ideas check out her blog...Good luck

Natural hair is a lot of work and I don't have too much time for the hard stuff. What I've been doing this week, cause wash day is Saturday, is at night I've been putting shea butter on my hair and putting 3 braids on each side, then when I get up in the morning I take those 6 braids out and lightly oil it for some sheen. Then I usually pull it into a ponytail cause I can't have my hair hanging in my face when I work, but you can where it down too I've done that and it looks nice and wavy. If I wan't a curlier look I wet it.
When I was transitioning I wore twists all the time, but I got funky with it and put small rollers in my hair at night and when I took the rollers out it gave me some nice spiral curls.
On another note if your thinking about perming, tex-laxing, it's okay. You have to ask yourself why are you doing this (natural). Don't do it just because everyone else is. If it doesn't fit you do what works best for you.
Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks girls :)
Keya, Nah I'm not doing it because everyone else is - I sincerely like the feel of my waves. I've gone without a perm before for about a year so I know I can do it, it's just lately (and I don't know if it's just needing energy or what), I have not had the time nor energy or desire to really do anything with my hair, whereas before I LOVED doing my hair (it was like a mini spa time for me complete with facials and plucked brows). hahah

I think also, I'm getting used to the thickness of the tex-lax and natural hair vs. the permed hair ends. I have about 2-3" of straight perm on my ends. My mom told me to just go ahead and cut the 3" off but I really like my length. I'm at a crossroads. I don't have split ends (I trim regularly) they are just thin compared to the rest of my hair.

I don't know. We'll see what I decide to do in a fit of desperation. hahah I'm kidding. Not there yet.

Rania,
Maybe you should trim and inch or so off of those ends and then try something like a wet set witbh rods. Its easy to do and lasts me about a week when I do mine. I'm not transitioning though, I've always been naturally curly/wavy and I hate straightening my hair. I only straighten to trim my ends. Play around with some styles. Spice it up. You might just fall in love with your natural styles.

I agree that it can be a lot of work but it looks so much healthier and prettier (my bias). LOL. You'll find that your natural hair grows so much faster too. I can't wait to see it natural...I'm sure it's beautiful

Thanks Mrs. K and luvlymskrissy - maybe I'll post pictures next time I do my hair.

Mrs. K - I'm the opposite. I usually prefer it straight because I don't know that I look that great with curly hair, but there are times when I do get bored with the straight and I want the waves. Usually when I am feeling or want to imbibe a more romantic and youthful feel. And buns can go either way. I really like messy buns. You look really cute with the waves but not every one can pull it off! Sometimes I feel like such a poser ;)

Missy, I forgot to mention I do follow NikStar's blog. She is the freakin' cutest little thing! hahah Love Love Love her hair!

Keya, I've never done braids before but I did do the bantu knots before and they came out pretty nice. I just have to get used to it because, like I said, I usually prefer the straight styles. That's what I'm just used to. But trying to branch out.

mskrissy, I will try the rods. Will make a trip to Sally's tomorrow since it's time for a washing (5 days is as LONG as I can go and that is pushing it!). Nothing going on tomorrow as far as work (knock on wood) so it is a perfect time to try it! If I don't like it...I can always put it in a messy bun, right? ;)
